Intermittent Problem - users being logged out of Totara unexpectedly

Hi all

We are a multi-tenanted Totara site hosted in the cloud. We are getting multiple reports of users saying that our Totara site is timing out or throwing out users unexpectedly. Once they try to log back in they get the following error message (see below).

  • This happens regardless of browser type (IE, Chrome or Firefox);
  • Happens at the workplace or at home;
  • Is not site specific - multiple sites across a large geographic area in multiple organisations;
  • Sometimes closing the browser / PC down will resolve the issue but not always;
  • The issue has been next to impossible to replicate - it happens randomly so we can't tee up a time for someone to see it happen.

 We don't know whats causing this problem and our vendor hasn't been able to solve it.

Would appreciate if anyone might know what this is!

Hi Alex

Have you got any web services running, check under Site admin > Plugins > Web Services > External services. 

If you have  got a web service enabled then there are setting for IP restrictions for  authorising users and creating tokens that may need to be edited see https://docs.moodle.org/34/en/Using_web_services for details.
