TL-4534 - Badge criteria to be linked to certifications to ensure the badges auto-expire/renew with the certification

Problem

Currently badges linked to courses which form content as part of a certification do not automatically expire or get reissued when a certification expires or is reset.

In one reported case, feedback was it is not possible to create and set the badge at the point of creating a certification or program. To have to create a certification or program, then go to 'Site administration > Badges' to create a badge was deemed a poor user experience.

Badges are not aligned with certifications when it comes to expiration. When a badge is attached to a certification, the badge should expire upon the certification expiring. Upon re-certification, the badge should be re-issued.

Suggestion

Enable badge criteria to be linked to certifications, programs and courses at point of creation.

Ensure badges automatically expire or renew with the certification.

Would be great if badges that were built on certification criteria could expire or issue in line with the certification.

It's confusing for the learner to have a badge show expired when they have just completed the certification or conversely the badge is current when the certification has expired, which is a risk because staff will assume they are currently certified when they are not.

If badges were able to be issued, expire and then re-issue all in line with the certification then that would make it really easy to see who is compliant and who isn't. Also means their Record of Learning, Certifications and Badges are all sync with the same dates/data.

Having badges linked directly to a certification would be an excellent way to easily see and track a users current status - whether they are allowed on a site, whether they are allowed to drive a certain vehicle.

Seeing that in a profile with a visual cue is great, but only if the badge is accurately tied to their certification validity

Expiry dates would need to reflect the settings in the certifiction (ie - extended based on completion date or expiry date)

User story:

Badges linked to certification should automatically expire once the certification expires so that user can earn the badge again.

Even if the badge does not have an expiry set on it the badge earning and expiry should be in lines with the certification.

This is requested by Totara client IHC.

This would be a great feature.

We tried to use the new certification status rule on audiences as a work around but first we encountered an issue with the rule and a more direct setting without audiences would be preferable.

Yes please

Would be useful to have an option to link badges to certification, program and course. And for the badge to align its parameters with the choice. So renew, expire with the certification etc.

To go into wishes and fairyland enabling the badge to fade in to expiry / or 30 days left count down - an alert on/below the badge for the user informing them of its imminent expiry :)
