Subscribers need to know who marked a course as completed, both for system completions but mainly when another user, for example the user's manager, marks them as completed manually or by using the RPL feature. This would include the ID of the user who made the action, the date and time and ideally the IP address of the PC used.
This could form part of an enhancement to the existing logs, or ideally could be added to all relevant /appropriate report sources so that administrators could use it for pretty much anything user driven in the system

Hi,
We have a couple of situations where we would like to be able to report of who has marked a member of staff as complete on the course/program/certification.
Currently we can only see what role has marked the completion and this information is deleted when the course is reset as part of the window opening functionality within a certification.
This would be especially useful for Link Trainers who deliver training within their local area and gives them a really quick way of marking the course.
Could this be introduced as part of all report sources where any course completions can be tracked e.g. activity and/or course completion report, certification completion report.. Suggested fields would be :
- name and id number of person who marked RPL or trainer completion
- date & time
- IP address of machine used
- any comments

I note that this has been put on the enhancement list but that there is no commitment on delivery - I wondered if there was any update on this? It's really hampering our ability to use Totara in the way in which we want to.

Given the feedback in this thread I've looked at this again and decided to split it into two parts.
The first part is the fact that manually recorded "Record of Prior Learning" is not currently logged in the system log. We are now going to treat this as a bug and will get a fix into a point release (hopefully the next one out in January), This will mean that a record of the event will appear in the system log, along with the user that completed the action, the date and time, their IP address, etc. This data is available via Site Admin > Reports > Logs/Live Logs and also via the "Site Logs" report builder source.
The second part is to record this information with the completion records themselves, and make the data available as part of the completion reports. This is a bit more work and will likely involve database and interface changes, and therefore we need to do that during a major release. As noted above though this change as been identified as a high priority.

This feature / enhancement request (tracked under enhancement ID 12727) has been deemed high priority and is under consideration for development by Totara core.
This does not indicate a delivery commitment. Development of the functionality is subject to further prioritization and resource availability.
Development priorities are reviewed regularly. If you wish to escalate your market need for this functionality, please contact your Totara Channel Partner Manager.

The more we use Totara, the more we have a need for this kind of recording. As it's recording of Statutory training then we need more of an evidence trail. This would give us what we need, please?

We really do need more information in the system logs regarding who is doing what, whether that be cancellation of a user off a course, who made the booking in the first place, who marked a course or who is making changes.
The system at present doesn' give us enough information on this and should be part of all relevant/appropriate report sources so that it can be noted which individuals did what on the system.

We can look into improving this, but so that we can understand exactly what you need it would be very helpful if you could give as much detail as possible about where this is currently missing.
Most actions in the system are recorded in the site logs which are accessible via Site Admin > Reports > Logs or using the "Site Logs" report source and also record extra information such as the user performing the action, their IP address, etc.
For the specific examples you gave above:
cancellation of a user off a course
Are you referring to when a user is removed from a face-to-face session by an admin or manually cancels themselves, or something else like unenrolling from a course? If you are talking about face-to-face then the face-to-face sessions report source includes a column "Actioned by" which reports on the user who set the current status for that user - is that what you want?
who made the booking in the first place
Again if this refers to face-to-face sessions then "Actioned by" is what you want. This information is also recorded in the site logs.
who marked a course
Could you provide a bit more detail on what you mean by "marked"? Are you referring to "Take attendance" in face-to-face, or grading a course in the gradebook, or something else?
who is making changes
Could you please clarify which changes you mean in this case?

Improvement TL-5239 - Logging user and IP when marking RPL has been included in Totara 2.9.0 which was released on November 3, 2015.
This was previously tracked under Bugzilla 12727.
