Persona service shutdown and its impact on Totara Social

Hi everyone!

We would like to bring to your attention that this week Mozilla announced that they are ending support for the Persona authentication service and will be shutting it down at the end of November, 2016. For more informations please see here https://wiki.mozilla.org/Identity/Persona_Shutdown_Guidelines_for_Reliers

As some of you might know, Totara Social is shipped with the Persona auth plugin which will essentially stop working at the end of the year with the Persona service shutdown. We have decided to remove this plugin and are planning on doing this in the next stable release to minimise impact of this service shutdown on any new site installations. All existing stable release sites will be assisted in migrating their users away from Persona. In addition, we will provide instruction on how to keep this plugin working on your web site once it is removed from the core codebase, in case you would prefer to keep using it until November 2016.

We would like to hear your thoughts, and please let us know if your web site is going to be affected by this change. This will help us estimate the impact of the Personal plugin removal and understand what will be required to help those affected.

Regards,
Totara Social team
