When you enrol a user through an audience an enrolment method is added to the course.

It is possible to Add/edit the Audience sync enrolment method and use this to add members of a specified audience to a specified group. (Course admin > Users > Enrolment methods > Add the Audience sync method based on audience used to assigned to the certificate.

Audience sync

This would have the effect of adding users to a group when they become a member of an audience that enrols them in the Certifcation course

When I tried this out in 2.9.8 for the face to face activity the activity didn't seem to allow separate groups to be created like other activities.

I will investigate further - if face to face groups aren't able to be created then the assigning to groups through the enrolment method won't be any use.

The visibility of the Face to face activity to groups is controlled by creating an Access restriction that requires the user to be a member of a specified group rather than through the Visible group settings.

To Turn on access restrictions

  1. Select Site admin > Advanced features
  2. Tick the Enable restricted access box.
  3. Select the Face to face in the cousre
  4. Select Edit settings > Restrict access > Add restriction > Group and enter the requirements
