I added a filter to a certain report. It has a dropdown to choose the relevant value.
Is there a way to choose the default value which will appear in the field on first access ?
Is there a way to set a default value and hide the filter ? [e.g - display only active team members]

The saved search can be selected for a report that can be added to the Report table block

The saved search can also be used in Scheduled Reports to send out by email.

Thanks so much for the detailed answer. I'm trying to see if there's a way to set customized default values in saved searches.
e.g. the user status filter is populated by default with 'Active users only' value. I would like to change that and have any other preset value set instead.
Would that be possible ?

I can't think of a way to change the default values in saved searches - saving the search saves the filter options you have selected.
