User tour issues

User tour issues

Hi all,

I've been testing user tours on the Totara demo site, and am really looking forward to using these on my own site - however I have come across a couple of issues. Can anyone advise on these?

1. The contextual info suggests that you can anchor a popup to any dashboard page by using the url match /dashboard/%
This works fine on Totara demo, but not on my own live or test sites, even when the Basis theme is applied. There's no reset option in the page footer either, and I can't see any indication that the tour has been applied.
Has anyone come across a similar problem?

2. I've used the Below option for placement (the info states that this works best for mobile display), but unlike other elements on the page, the popup doesn't actively move with a change in aspect ratio - you have to reset the tour after (for example) rotating the screen.
Are there any plans to amend the popup to be more directly responsive?

Many thanks,

Ian

Update: Re the first issue outlined below - creating user tours on dashboard pages - our Totara partner has advised as follows:

"The user tours hook into the navigation initialisation code (as the hooks to allow this to be done directly on any page were only added in Moodle 3.3 - Totara is based on Moodle 3.2). The page in question does not include the navigation block, so it never initialises the navigation on the page, so it never triggers the user tour code."

Is anyone from Totara able to comment on whether this is a change that is planned for future updates? I'm really keen to start using user tours, esp. on dashboards, and whilst we could add the navigation block somewhere on the dashboard, it seems a shame that we have to modify our site to get user tours working.

You should be able to get User Tours working on the dashboard by using this as the URL /totara/dashboard/% . The Navigation block hasn't been needed on the tours I have created before for dashboards. Basic question, but have you ticked the "Enabled" box on the tour settings?

Thanks for this Ian, and yes the tour was enabled. We're running Totara Version 11.7 (Build: 20180919.00) based on Moodle 3.2.9 (Build: 20180517), I don't know whether this might make a difference?

I've tested the navigation block solution on our site, and I'm in complete agreement with our partner's observation as to how this works (or not). This is really disappointing, as we're unable to get the best out of user tours simply because we took an initial design decision to exclude navigation blocks from the site.

Can this be raised with Totara to see how much work would be involved in providing a patch for this?

Thanks,

Ian

Hi Ian

A ticket has been created for this - it looks like Totara 12 will address this issue and we will look at fixing this in version 11

Hi Ian,

A fix has now been integrated and will be included in the November release of Totara 11.9.

Kind regards
