Assignment Submissions Report - Available to Managers?

Hi All,

I have an Assignment Submission report setup in the Report manager that I'm happy with - however I need to make it available to line managers (just like Course Completions report) - however I'm not getting the options under the "Content" tab for this - only the 'Global report restrictions' option.

Is it possible to make the Assignment Submissions report available to line managers? Or have I misconfigured something else where?

Using Totara 10 and have the report accessible to all relevant roles.

Hi Rob,

This is a trickier report than it seems on the surface. The Content tab for this report source does not include the Manager options, you are correct. The issue is that this report source is intended more for Trainers/Editing Trainers to review the course work of their Learners. A Staff Manager, by default, does not have permissions to view activity-level work for their Learners. There is a cross-over here that is limited in the system, for Staff Managers to see what the user is doing at the activity-level - the default reporting is geared for Staff Manager perspective to really begin at the overall course level.

To get what you're looking for would, I believe, require further development on the report source to 1. add the content controls for staff managers to view their learners and 2. for the report to ignore or go around the standard role permissions to give Managers permission to view activity level work for the learners.

I'd love to hear how others have managed this sort of reporting as well!

Thanks for your comments. With the Assignment Submission report we have the option (as it stands) to either make the report available to all managers, or none at all (based on role in any context). In this respect - it seems that it is not using permissions at all regarding the detail of the report, relying solely on the report permissions.

Given this is the case, we are really just talking about filtering the data so the manager only sees their own staff (or reporting line).

Conceptually I see no reason this couldn't be the case - perhaps it's the established expectation (as you suggest) that managers don't need that granularity of data as to why these filtering options are not available.
