Courses used in certifications and programs

Hi. I have a course that I have set up as a certification, and the same course is used as part of another program. If a user completes the course as part of the program, will it satisfy the certification? Mark the certification as complete with that date and set up the recert date? Or does that have to be done through the actual certification?

We have several certifications that we would like to include in a new team member training program, but need to be retaken every year... it does not appear that certifications can be put inside programs. So I am trying to figure out the best way to do this without having the users go to several different places to complete the work.

Hi Jennifer,

The certification just checks completions, and a user can be enrolled into a course by multiple enrollment plugins, so it should be fine.

You have to bear in mind the course in the certification will periodically have the completions archived, and the activities reset; it will go from complete to uncomplete. This could be confusing for the user and it means if they haven't completed the program, but completed the course then they will need to complete it again (if its reset by the certification) to complete the program.

I think it would probably be better just to keep the course/s to the cert. Is there any reason why they need to be in both a program & a cert. for the user in question?

Thank you, George! We have 4 courses that are part of our new team member training program that are required to be completed by all team members every year. When you say the certification is just checking completions, are you saying activity & course completion? I have both set up (course completion is dependent on the activities being complete), but when I completed the courses outside of the certification, it did not update the certification.

The activities will reset based on the certification timing you select, correct?

Hi Jennifer,

It should be updated on the cron run, so its not instant & yes its based on course completion, which in turn is based on activity completion. It wont matter if the courses are completed outside of the cert, and yes it will operate on the settings you chose.
