There is some ability in the text editor to save draft content - this isn't obvious to the user until reaccessing the content. The text editor also has a Undo and redo button

Some of the content may not be in text editor though.

There is an existing feature request TL-19999 Autosave Appraisals that is discussed here that you can add your support to.
