Issue with resuming SCORM package

Hi.

I am using Articulate Storyline 360 to develop content, publishing as SCORM 1.2 and hosting it on a Totara 2.9 site.

One of my SCORM programs is coming up with an intermittent fault where the user logs out midway through the course, but when they resume the course they go back to an earlier slide. This does not happen to everyone, and my testing is hard to see it occurring.

I note that from Storyline I can publish as the following:

SCORM 1.2
SCORM 2004
AICC
Tin Can API

SCORM 2004 is not meant to work on Totara but seems to. Is something going to go wrong if I use this?

I can't get the AICC module to upload to test.

How do I go about utilising Tin Can API on Totara?

Is anyone able to provide some advice on how to get the resume function to work correctly?

Hi Simon

Totara fully supports SCORM 1.2 and AICC objects

To use SCORM 2004 you will need a third party player such as Rustici for navigating the package and possibly a SCORM Cloud server

Tin Can would also need third party plugins to log progress and play the content

There may be some Partners who can share their experiences of what third party plugins and how well they work with Totara.

I'm using the same software, Articulate Rise & Storyline and trying to track an intermittent completion problem. I'm getting a loss of progress data for <5% of students. The student exiting partway goes back to the start next time, as if they have never entered the course.

I've done lots of tests and even sat with students who have had this problem. So far nothing.

I have replicated the result by not enrolling a test student and setting guess access on. Then completion and progress are not recorded. But I can't see how this could have happened.

The only other circumstance I've theorised to explain it is that the network experiences a problem before they close the browser window. That could account for your circumstance, but less likely my circumstance of the whole course.

What I have learnt is that the SCORM package saves 'suspend data' as a text string when it closes. This is only 4,000 characters for SCORM1.2 and 64,000 characters for SCORM2004. Totara advise that we need to use SCORM1.2. When resuming, my participants didn't go back to the start of the course but partway through. Just to an early slide than they were meant to be at.

I have discovered that Totara will actually work with SCORM 2004 and this solved my resume issue.

I have also split the course into 3 smaller modules which means less suspend data is required.

The other thing that may be relevant is ensuring the "force new attempt" in Totara is selected. If the SCORM package has a trigger to indicate an attempt is made, then this will affect how the package reopens. I am not sure how this would affect your course.

Hi Simon

There is a setting Enable SCORM 1.2 standard mode which when disabled allows 64 000 characters to be stored so the SCORM can be resumed correctly and also allows SCORM 1.2 to be used.

Parts of SCORM 2004 work but things like navigation and sequencing don't work
