Hi all,

I have came across a disaster quiz yesterday. A few issues have appeared:

1. First of all, one candidate has lost connection half way through the quiz and when the connection comes back, the answers has not been saved!! This is the message the candidate see: Network connection lost. (Autosave failed). Make a note of any responses entered on this page in the last few minutes, then try to re-connect. Once connection has been re-established, your responses should be saved and this message will disappear. May I ask how come the autosave did not apply? Is it some settings that we need to apply?

2. Due to the candidate losing the answers, we agreed to give that candidate extra time. So then while the candidate is still in the exam, I did user override for that candidate but it appears as "student does not have the correct group or role to attempt the quiz". I saw some people saying you can't use restrict access with user override, is that true? My restrict access is clearly for that candidate group and 100% the candidate is a learner. The only thing is the candidate belongs in 3 different group for different purposes. Will that be a problem?

3. Now I would like to place all questions in one page in case something go wrong again. Is it possible to place MCQs and SAQs in one page? I have put the setting to display all questions in one page but it did not update? When I go Edit Exam, I can't edit the exams because there are attempts already.

I really appreciate if someone can help!

Thanks!

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer,

1) There is an autosave setting in the Quiz plugin here: YOUR TOTARA/admin/settings.php?section=modsettingquiz. The default is one minute.

(from the setting)

'Responses can be saved automatically during quiz attempts. The responses are saved whenever one is changed, and then after this delay. There is a trade-off: a shorter delay increases the server load, but reduces the chance that learners lose their work. If you are going to make this delay much shorter, you should change the value gradually and monitor the server load. If the load gets too high, make the delay longer again. Setting the delay to 0 turns off auto-saving'.

Its hard to say what has or has not been saved without knowing more about the questions and your setup.

2) We need more information here. Do you have a Totara partner? Can you ask them to intervene? Or are you a direct subscriber? We can't offer any advice without fully understanding what you have set up and what you tried to do, what the groups are and what roles are involved.

3) You should be able to put the questions on one page, but I think you should be focusing on why the connection was interrupted. Its not possible to delete or add questions to a quiz once there are attempts, this is deliberate to ensure Learners all take the same thing.

Hope this is useful, please let us know if you have more questions.

cheers,

George.
