Adding a course to both multiple programs and a certification

Hello Folks,

I was wondering if anyone has been able to add a series of courses to multiple programs and also have those courses as a part of certifications for each of those courses.

My concern is with enrollment and what might happen if the person is unenrolled from one of the programs and and what would happen to the enrollment in the courses that are tied to the certification.

An example is an audience based enrollment in a certification that recurs annually and a separate certification that they are enrolled in that expires some time in the far future (say 30 years).

Once the person completes both prerequisites they get automatically enrolled in the program through a dynamic audience that checks whether both certifications are complete.

At the annual mark (say 10 months) the the annually recurring course opens (through the certification) and then expires (at 12 months).

Would both courses be unenrolled when they no longer meet the criteria for the program?

The idea is using the program as a mechanism to ensure that personnel have met all prerequisites for a capability to do some task. Mainly as a reporting tool to the persons supervisor.

I know we should not add a course to multiple certifications because of the issue with exceptions.

This is about adding multiple courses to multiple programs as well as a single certification for each course.

Currently (in version 12 anyway) we can not add a certification to a program so this would be sort of a work around.

Thank you for any information.

Hi Peter

The users will be unenrolled when they don't meet the criteria . What happens to the enrolment on the External unenrol action selected

  • Unenrol user from course: This will delete most of the user's data from the course.
  • Disable course enrolment: User enrolment is suspended (the user can't access the course, but user data and settings are kept) and roles are kept as is. You might use this because in some cases the user needs a role with some capability to be visible in the user interface, such has in gradebook, assignments, etc.
  • Disable course enrolment and remove roles: The enrolment is suspended and roles assigned by the program enrolment instance are removed. Please note that user may disappear from gradebook and other areas.

When the user completes the Certification the courses will be reset and if the course is in the program the course there will be reset as it is the same course but using enrolment methods.

If this isn't what you want to happen then you can use a separate copy of the course for the Certification so that the reset doesn't affect the course in the program.
