Learners self mark attendance on seminars

Is there a way (or a workaround) where learners are able to mark themselves as Fully Attended on a seminar event? We want to give a level of agency to our staff to be able to mark off in a course that they attended the training (not for all courses but for some of them).

This would create more accurate reporting for us and remove an admin load.

Hi Jen

There is a permission Take attendance that you can Allow for the learner role for all courses

If you just want this for some seminars then you can override this setting for the learner role in the seminar required as below screenshot

The problem with this is that the learner can mark other users as attending - if you don't want this then in the seminar activity Activity completion settings select Learners can manually mark the activity as complete.

Awesome, thanks Craig. I'm going to have a go at getting this up and running in our Sandpit with the hope that a few of our courses will benefit from it.

Hi Jen,

we had the same challenge and solved it the other way around.

We make a separate URL activity on every course containing the seminar activity & make course completion dependent on the user clicking on it. The convenient thing is that we restrict access to it for only a certain period after the session. This way we ensure that colleagues can mark themselves only for a portion of time and not before/afterwards.

Hope this helps :)

Best,
