New to Totara! Audiences...

Hi All - I have just taken over the administration of our Totara system so am asking this with limited understanding of the system (I'm making my way through) and hope my question is not too basic, lol.

We want to update the audiences in the system as they were originally created manually for each course, i.e course = how to walk the dog, audience = how to walk the dog. We have created new audiences based on role and location and want to 'reapply' them to the courses. I can see that if I add a new audience to a course it just adds the extra users on.

We want to know, if we delete the audiences out of the all the courses and then reapply the new ones we have created based on role and location, what happens to the users that may be included in the new audiences and have completed the training.  Will that completion be included once they are put back into the course in the new audience?

Hi Lisa

If you are using an audience to enrol a user in a course and then the user will be unenrolled from the course.

What happens when a user is unenrolled by an audience depends on the external unenrol action

  • Unenrol the user from course: This will remove the user and delete most of their data from the course
  • Disable course enrolment and remove roles: Suspends the user enrolment whilst retaining user data such as activity grades from the course
If you select the second option then the course progress data will be retained.

Alternatively you can create the new audience so they are still enrolled before taking them out of the old audience that enrolled them.

The answer wasn't that basic!

Regards

Thank you Craig for your reply! Glad it wasn't a silly question.  I like the idea of adding the new audiences then taking out the old one, seems like the most simple answer.
