How to fix iCalandar problem?

When, for instance the dates of a seminar are changed, anotification is sent to the learner. This notification contains an iCalendar.

The problem is that in many casdes where the seminar exists of multiple sessions, Outlook (or Exchange) does not always accept the iCal. You get the following attachment in the mail: not supported calendar message.ics

This seems to happend quite often in our environment. The reason is, that Outlook does not support iCalendars with recurring sessions when the recurrence definition is not supported by Outlook.

This makes the iCalendar function actually quite annoying, because many learners receive a notification with a useless iCalandar.

A solution might be to change the setting so that a mail is being sent for every single session. But we also have seminars with many sessions, that can get rescheduled.

So: does any one know a good solution?

- Is there a way to suppress notifications being sent with an iCalendar altogether?

- Or is there a solution to the iCalendar functiona itself?

Hi Antoine

There is a global setting for seminars One message per date that should do the trick

Calendar support for .ics is non-standard and different email clients may handle these attachments differently. One known example is that MS Outlook handles attachments for seminar events with multiple sessions differently to Gmail. Therefore if your notification recipients use MS Outlook and you have seminars that have multiple sessions over different dates, you should enable the One message per date setting.

The disabling of iCal across the site isn't one of the Global settings - it is a user who chosses what type of calendar notification format they want  when they make a booking on a seminar.
