Stealth activities ( 'available but not shown')

Hi everyone

I wonder if there is a way to have "stealth" activities so that the learners don't see them on the course page, but can access them via a link. Hiding an activity would render it entirely unavailable for learners, but I'd like a way to link the activity from the site. Couldn't find a way to enable stealth activities in site admin. Is "orphaning" an activity my only option?

Ideally, I don't want an activity sitting in a course, but on the site level. I wonder if I should attempt adding it to the front page. But how can I then prevent everyone from seeing it?

Hi Natalia,

Orphaned activities will work for you here and you can do this at the site level. You can add the 'Main Menu' block on the site front page where you can add activities and resources. Grab the link/s for those activities, remove/delete the block (note don't hide the activity or the block) from the front page and you get your stealthy activities!

Thanks, I appreciate your response! Yes, I was aware of orphaned activities, just thought I'd double-check if stealth activities are supported without "orphaning" them.

Yes, I thought of the Main menu block, but wasn't sure how it works. So if I delete it, will I be able to re-add it later? If I re-add the block, does that bring back any activities that were added in that block?

Apologies for the delay in replying - I had a couple of days off :)

Yep, if you delete/remove that Main Menu block, the activities and resources that sit within it will right there where you left them when you re-add it.

Yes, I was afraid to remove the Main menu block, but I've tried re-adding it, and the activities are back in place.
