Using Quizzes for Self Assessments/LNA

I'm trying to set up a self-assessment on my LMS using a Quiz as the 'i' button recommends this activity type for self assessments. It will be a series of multiple choice questions which each have a free text question so learning can expand/explain why. However, as there is no right/wrong, I'm not sure how to do the scoring so learners get the feedback relevant to them based on their responses.

Has anyone ever used Quiz for self-assessments? Or know where there's guidance/examples of how to set this up? Or is there a better tool I could use?

Thanks

A quiz would be fine, as you are required to go and mark the Essay questions manually

Different question types and explanations - https://totara.help/docs/examples-of-quiz-question-types

How to manually grade essay questions - https://totara.help/docs/grade-essay-questions-in-a-lesson

With the quiz - when you go into quiz attempts, you should have the option to make comments, which would be an easy way to also provide feedback to your learners.

The other option could be using a feedback, which does not need grading, you can create multichoice and essay type questions. I don't thinkl you can give learner feedback however.

Thanks. The self assessment wouldn't be marked by anyone, it's basically used like branching to give someone recommended learning (which will be linked to in the feedback). However, we (as an organisation) want to be able to report to pull out the data to be able to see what learning needs are coming up a lot.

Hi Zahra

The short answer question in the Quiz allows strings and wildcards to be used to check the string provided by the user's answer  and a grade and feedback provided based on the first string found that matches

The branching required sounds like a Lesson activity may be more suitable - a lesson can also have short answer questions

Thanks. I've never used Lesson before. Will look into this option. Thanks
