Just to say this is a perennial problem for us.
As with Katelyn, we have learners joining (and leaving) on a regular basis. Compliance courses and modules (H&S, Safeguarding, etc) have to be done annually and tracked/audited to a quality assessment model.
We've tried certifications, but as mentioned, it's a ridged structure and not suitable for our needs.
The only workaround I stumbled across was to contruct a report using logs as the data source. This reports brings back every completion date of a module (not a course per say) and as most of our course completion settings are based on completion of certain modules, it does the job in terms of audit.
Of course, it doesn't fulfil the learner reminder aspect of things; the triggering to re-do courses and modules.
To me in terms of an LMS, this feature should be a 'must have' and I hope it's top of someone's list at Totara.
