Hi, we don't currently use badges but I am exploring them as an option to introduce to our site. I've got a couple of questions that I'm hoping someone can give me some guidance on.

  1. If you create a badge for course completion will it award it retrospectively to learners or only to those who complete the course after the badge has been introduced?

  2. On my forum posts, I've noticed it shows a couple of badge images, if I hover over them it gives a bit more information on what they were awarded for (see screenshot below). I would be interested to know how and where I can get something similar to work on our site, is it just unique to Forums?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Sue,

1. Your badge will be issued to all users who meet the completion criteria, so users who meet the requirements before the badge is made available will still receive the badge.


2. These icons are created using the groups functionality. You can see how this is set up in this behind the scenes video here:

Many thanks for the response Jordan. I had incorrectly thought the icons were badges but your behind-the-scenes recording clearly explains what they are and how I could use them. Currently we don't do much with Forums so maybe something in the future.
