Hello,

Our organization is exploring ways to integrate Totara with MOOCs and external courses. We would like to understand the following:


  • Integration Process: How can we integrate Totara with MOOCs and external courses? Are there specific steps or tools within Totara to facilitate this integration?

  • User Tracking: Is it possible for our organization to track users who consume these external courses? If so, what kind of tracking and reporting capabilities are available?

  • Help Resources: Are there any materials or guides in the Totara Help Center that explain how to carry out this integration?


Any insights, experiences, or resources you could share would be greatly appreciated.

Hola Jesús.

The integration of Ttara with other systems depends on what you mean by integration and the method (API, web service, protocol).

The short answer is yes, with code, you can integrate with any platform. But, you have to think about restrictions like $$$ or security in other platforms, experience.

We have one or two MOOCs which we signpost users to, and then give them credit for having completed. In our case, the MOOC generates a certificate at the end which can be submitted via an Assignment activity in Totara, but there's no actual integration between systems. Am sure, somewhere, there will be a technology that allows the data to flow back into Totara, but you are very much reliant on the system hosting the MOOC to also support that technology (and to enable some sort of interface between your systems).
