Setting up a Seminar Certification

Hello Totara Community!

I am wondering if anyone has set up a Seminar Course as part of a certification. We are in the process of building better compliance reporting and sending out reminders to staff about mandatory training. We have a lot of in-person training sessions that require staff to take annually or biannually and some feedback we have received is that they wish to be reminded/assigned to take training.

Does anyone have experience or knowledge building a seminar course into a certification? If so, what was the experience like? Did it work in the way that you wanted it to? Did it reset the previous completion and allow users to select another date?

Our other option is building a new course every year to allow users to only sign up once per year.

I am open to any other suggestions to help our compliance with in-person mandatory courses.

Thank you!

Alexx

Hi Alexa

A seminar is an activity rather than a course . A course activities are reset when recertification is required and the recertification window opens.

Previous attendance data will be archived. Any event sessions that took place before the certification window opens will not count towards course completion. Seminar activities have a setting that allows learners to sign up for multiple sessions within the same activity, so learners can sign up for another session in the certification or recertification period if required.

There a variety of certification notifications that could be used with the following useful for reminding learbers

  • Certification due date

  • Recertification window open date

  • Certification expiry date
