NHS - Safeguarding Children Level 3

Hi all,

Based on the core skills training framework changes that came in last week, Safeguarding Children Level 3 should be set at 3 yearly and the other expiry period competencies will cease to be used. However our Safeguarding Lead for our organisation states that subject guidance states that there should be documented training yearly.

Has anyone implemented a way to track this on their system? Do you have separate courses for the 3 yearly and 1 yearly requirements? Have you got a way to log the CPD yearly which gives 3 yearly competence?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I imagine this is an issue across all NHS organisations.

Our Totara Certification remains 1 year, and completion of it awards a 3 year CSTF Level 2 competency (so it can still be fed back into ESR). This aligns with the fact that we don't accept Adults L3 competencies from other Trusts, so it doesn't cause a mismatch in the inbound and outbound data. Fire and Moving and Handling are a bigger issue (because those are both 1 year Certifications), so for the moment we're simply not feeding the data back into ESR until our local teams have agreed on what to do.
