Learning Plan - automatic creation?

Learning Plan - automatic creation?
?? 发表于 2011年10月25日 Tuesday 07:21

Hi

We have a client who has approx 10,000 end users and ideally they do not want to ask them to create their own learning plans. This means that the adminstrator will need to create the learning plans for every learner.

Has anyone found a solution which allows the automatic creation of learning plans - for instance when a user is set up for the first time?

Thanks

Jo

Hi - it can be set so that they use a pattern. For instance - Mandatory Training - for all job roles.

We have a similar need for this.  In our case, there is a common learning plan that ALL employees (regardless of position) will need to have access to.

This learning plan is comprised of a set of core organizational competencies which are mapped to sets of courses that employees may choose from.

Hi Jo,

We have implemented this multiple times for clients.

This is probably the most asked for addition to Totara functionality along with automatically updating user's learning plans with changes made to evidence items (i.e. courses) added to competencies that users already have in their learning plans.

We have done the creation triggered by importing user data and we have also done a version where the learning plans are created and updated overnight or when the user logs in (which ever happens first).

We use the standard competency settings (using mandatory to work out what should be send through to the learning plan) associated with position and organisation hierarchies and the Learning plan settings to work out who will get what.

We have also applied different learning plan templates to different types of users as part of this (ignoring the standard use of only the default learning plan template).

All these required additional development to get working.

Hi David

Interested by your comment ..."automatically updating user's learning plans with changes made to evidence items (i.e. courses) added to competencies that users already have in their learning plans." (my emphasis).

Our support vendor (Catalyst IT) created for us a learning plans modification of a new Home Tab that becomes the default LMS home page for users that highlights their upcoming courses & deadlines. It also lists new development activities (online resources, training courses, seminars, conferences, secondments, and 'acting up' opportunities) based on their agreed Competencies and separately based on a range of profile values (e.g. location, role, past development activities, professional body membership).

Screen shot below - have you seen this?

Cheers

Hi,

Couldn't you use the new Course Programs and Dynamic Cohorts features in version 1.1?

Create a Dynamic Cohort (New Employees?) that adds users based on a user profile field, posiiton or organisation - might have to create a custom profile field which you can use to assign the users into this cohort eg. probation/new employee/?

Then create a course program of various courses, competencies required for Mandatory Training and then assign the New employees cohort to this program.

Cheers

Ira

Hi Ira

Good idea - this would automatically assign courses from programs to users.

I don't think that this would automatically create their learning plans and assign the program to it. This would currently need to be manually done unless one of the programs developed above could be modified, or is it better to use the programs as described.
