Reporting at main category level

Hi,

We need to be able to run reports for all courses within a specific category including all courses contained in any sub-categories.  Currently we only seem to be able to report by individual category or sub-category and this is really time consuming.

An example would be we run waiting lists for a number of courses within the IT Training category but they are all in different sub-categories.  We would like to view all waiting list entries within the IT Training category in one report.

Has anyone got a solution for this (or are we doing it wrong!)  We are currently on 2.5.3 but about to move to 2.5.5.

Thanks - Steph

Hi Steph,

Are the reports for waiting lists on courses containing Facetoface activities? There is a new "F2F Summary" report source in development that would list all the sessions for every F2F, the course name, course category, and various fields on users - numbers fully booked, numbers waiting manager approval, numbers waitlisted, that kind of thing.

It's not scheduled to be released until 2.6 in a few months but it should be relatively straightforward to backport it to 2.5 once it has been released in the 2.6 core.

Hi Ciaran,

This report sounds like it would be really useful, what we also need to do, and don't seem to be able to, is run a report on f2f activities per course/category to show all sessions and at the moment we only seem to be able to do this if a learner has booked/cancelled/waitlisted etc..  ie if no-one has accessed the activity it doesn't show on the report.  Will the new report solve this?

When you say in a few months when does this mean?

Thanks - Steph

"in a few months" - the new report is being developed for 2.6, and 2.6 should be released somewhere around March/April as usual. Major Totara releases are always roughly every 6 months now, in March/April and Sept/Oct.

I'll check with the developers of the report to ask if sessions with no activity will also be included.

On a more general level there has been an outstanding enhancement request to add an "include children" checkbox to the Course Category filter, which would then allow you to run any report, add the course category filter, check the "include children", and so filter the report for the entire category tree.

It's been asked for by quite a few people now so we'll try to add that enhancement fairly quickly.
