Restrict view site manager

Hi,

we are implementing totara at this time and have maybe a special setup for permissions and hope you can help me:

We will have different categories for example: IT & Software AUT and IT & Software BG.

I will be the admin for the system and I am able to see both categories. The restriction of the view for learners are clear but is there any possibility to restrict the view for site admins (maybe another role fits better)? The admin of BG should have the opportunity to create subcategories just in IT & Software BG and create courses in the category IT & Software BG and subcategories. But this is just an example, we will have much more different categories for different countries but the easiest and best overview would be that the admin of BG can just see there categories which they can be edited by them. Is there any possibility?

Thank you

Best regards, Markus

Hi Markus,

Site admins will see all categories, there's not much you can do about this. The way around it is to use the Site manager role instead & assign it at the category level. If you hide all the categories then the user with the role will only be able to see those cats (and their children)  in which they have the Site manager role. They will not be able to create sub-categories themselves, but will be able to create courses in them.

Hope this is useful, let me know what you think.

cheers,

George.

Hi George,

thank you for your feedback. I am right, if I hide all the categories, then the learner cannot see the categories and courses as well?

They should be able to create sub-categories but just in the categories they are allowed to see (and to change, work with etc.). Maybe I have to create a new role but I think this is too complex :)
