Recertification with different courses

Dear community,

We have the following question:

Context

Our users need to go through a one-time Program (with fixed courses) to get certified as a Coach.

This program gives them a license to be a Coach for 3 years. Within these 3 years they need to follow courses that have "Credits" attached to them. If they obtain 12 credits their license will be extended for another 3 years (after the original 3 years have expired). When the new license is handed out they can start collecting Credits again.

90% of the courses of the "re-licensing"-process are always new sessions that we organize and only occur once.

If we do this through adding every single new course to a (Re)Certification it will be very hard to manage/track and confusing for the end user.

Ideally we should be able to trigger an action by a user completing courses until he has 12 Credits (custom field course field). Is there an option/plugin/... to achieve what we need? Any experiences on this?

Good news

In Programs and Certifications there is an ability to set a course score field (custom course field) and a minimum score field for a course set.

Notifications can be set for course set completion and the courses with be reset when Certification period expired.

But then we need to manually update the certification with every course we add? And every learner that is assigned to the certification will see ALL the available trainings as part of his certification in his dashboard?

Any course that you add to the recertification path will need to be manually added and all of the courses in the certification path will be visible to the person doing the certification.

If you don't want a course to appear on the recertification path you can delete this course from the recertification path and replace it with the new one. Anyone who enrolled in the old course through the Certification will have their course completion record retained. Is this what you want?

If you want to still see the course but not be able to enrol in it then you can hide the course or make it available to no users if using audience based visibility.

Have a read through the recertification documentation to see the various options and ask questions to see if we can fit this around your requirements.

Hi Craig,

In our context, we would need to add legacy 'License Points' from our database.

F.e. a user already collected 5 license points this year and needs to collect 7 more on Totara to achieve his recertification. What is the best way to add these artificial 5 license points?

I have tried to do it with manually assigning & completing a user to a "fake" course with License Points attached, however I have to include that course in the (re)certification path and then everybody will see it in the list (even though they will not be able to access it) What is a better way to do this?

I can't think of a better way to do this using the existing recertification structure - the license points are variable and attached to a course and the course is visible through the Certification no matter what the visibility settings are.

I will create a feature request with your requirements included so we can fit something around this.
