How do I create question banks for future proofing courses?

I'm told I can create question banks to make sure future enrollees will be able to see new quiz questions while the current and older enrollees in the course will still be able to see the original question even after the new quiz question has been added.

ie:

Quiz A has two questions - Q1 and Q2 - and is populated by questions from Question Bank A:

Question Bank A

Q1

Q2

Barry is enrolled and attempts Quiz A, and gets Q2 incorrect.

I add Q1.1 to the question bank (an updated version of the question)

Question Bank A

Q1

Q1.1

Q2

I update the quiz to see Q1.1 instead of Q1.

Jack is enrolled and attempts Quiz A, and sees:

Quiz A

Q1.1

Q2

Barry re-attempts Quiz A, and still sees:

Quiz A

Q1

Q2

How do I manage the question banks or the quiz to enable this to happen? Or am I understanding this functionality correctly at all?

Thanks

Hi Lauren

This is how question banks work - it is possible to have variations of the same questions and to choose a variation of a question.

Questions can have categories created for them and questions from categories can be selected to make up a quiz.

In your case the old question could be moved to a category called old and the replacement question added to an appropriate category. You can then select questions from the appropriate category (excluding old category) to make a quiz for users who have not attempted the quiz. A user who has attempted the quiz with a question from the old category will see the old question and answer when reattempting.

There is some explanation of setting up Question banks here

Thanks for that Craig,

You say I can make a quiz for users who have not attempted the quiz - is that a new quiz I need to make or can I leave the quiz activity alone?

So far when I try to test it with users as you say (A user who has attempted the quiz with a question from the old category will see the old question and answer when reattempting), I cannot edit the quiz as it has already been attempted?

I have another question - I'm being told that I need to build one question bank per question to get the functionality of different users seeing the different versions of questions. Is that true? This seems over the top to me but I can't get it to work.

Thanks

Lauren
