Display Program Summary in Totara 12 - Bug?

Hi everybody,

we discovered that in Totara 12 (we are on 12.5 on our testing system) the summary is not being displayed from within a program anymore (URLs like ".../totara/program/view.php?id=<programid>").

The T12 documentation states:
"The summary or program description text is displayed in the search program page and when a learner is viewing the details of the program."

From my understanding this means, that the summary should be displayed when the user is on the overview page for a particular program (see URL example above).
Since we also couldn't find any information about a change in this functionality within the release notes, we are wondering if this is intended behaviour (and if so, why?) or a bug.

We are using the program summary extensively in order to make programs more userfriendly, so this is a big issue for us.

Are there any plans to get the summary back?

Hi Lena

I assume you are using the new gric catalogue

The Summary text for programs should be available by configuring the catalogue.

In the Templates tab > Detail content placeholders enable Rich text content

in the Details tab > Rich text content select Summary for the programs (this works for Courses and Certifications too

If you go into the program the summary shows in the Details tab rather tan the Overview

I am not sure if this was the intention but the summary should be available by clicking on the program tile.

Hi Craig,

thanks for getting back.

We are not using the grid catalogue (yet).
Nevertheless, the issue appears one step further, as soon as you click on the button "Go to program".

Please see screen shot below for clarification.

So from within a program the summary is not displayed to the learner any more.
We included instructions and a lot other info in the summary which is needed when a learner is actually working to complete a program, hence on this page.

Hi Lena

Thanks for clarifying - if you are not using the Grid catalogue then you will be using the program report for viewing the program.

This report can be edited to include the program summary information - the screen you have isn't able to be edited to include the summary. I can add a feature request for this if you want.

Hi Craig,

we have already included the description in the report.

However, it has to be available to the user when they are viewing the actual program and its contents.

Do you know why it was removed in T12?

And yes, please add a feature request to get it back. :)
