Quiz engine randomization

Hi totara folks,

Is quiz randomization based on any specific standard within Totaralearn? We are required to have tests that are randomly generated and I would like to include the standard within our training procedure.

Yes it is possible to create question banks with a pool of question in categories and to specify a number of random questions from a category to be selected for a quiz.

Hi Craig,

I am actually trying to understand if there is a standard such as an ISO or otherwise that the quiz module adheres to with the randomization engine.

I am speaking specifically of how the randomization works within the quiz module when random questions are used.

The random question numbers for selection would be generated by a PHP function - the ISO standard 18031:2011 for randomisation is more to do with security/cryptography which is probably not required for by a random number generation for quiz question

Hi, I have a number of bank question saved in a course category by a previous site administrator. I want to copy this question to a Site Category so I can use them in a new course I am creating. I've tried the duplicate option for the questions but in the pop up box I only get the option to save it the question in the same course category, the system category option is not listed.

Any advice would be appreciated on how to copy bank questions to a System Category for use in other courses.

Hi Sue

There isn't a copy function for question banks as such.

There is a Move option that you can use to move the questions to the system category if you don't need a copy. Otherwise you can probably export then import the questions into the system category.
