How to set a fixed certificate expiration date?

Hey folks!

New to the community, so apologies if this is posted in the wrong spot.

I need some help/clarity on certifications. I already read through the following help article that just confused me more https://help.totaralearning.com/display/TL29/Certifications#Certifications-Recertificationdetails

All I'm trying to do is create a certification that expires on 12/31/2020 for all users regardless of their completion date (so it wouldn't matter whether the certification was completed 1/14/20 or 12/30/20, it'll expire 12/31/20 regardless for all users). I can't figure out how to do this, and there's so much confusing terminology around fixed expiry dates, minimum active periods, etc.

Can anyone help a doofus like me understand how to accomplish my goal? I've tried scouring the internet for an answer but all I find is extra layers of complication that confuse me more...

Any help would be super appreciated!

Hi Alain

You are  on the right track - using a fixed expiry date is what is required. There will be a minimum active period setting available after selecting fixed expiry date.

The effects of the active period settings are explained here  if you are unsure of how long to make this as you don't know how long it will take the average user to complete then make this longer than you expect so the certifications don't expire.
