We have away to do this that might work for you.
We've added custom Course Fields (that's their name, and not a code customisation) of; 'Next Course Review' (date), 'Business Owner' (text), and 'L&D notes' (text).
From experience, many course have special conditions of their review (e.g. part of a Certification, or have complex ownership) and the 'L&D Notes' is a way to carry forward information about the review to its next cycle.
Then, regularly run a Report that focuses on course's near (or overdue) for review. You could set this up as a scheduled report and have it emailed to you each month?
