It is possible for individual users to turn off notifications for a range of notification including Badge recipient and Badge creator notifications
- Click on your profile in the upper right corner
- Select Preferences > Notification preferences
- Turn Off the notification channels and types you don't want.
It is also possible to set the default message outputs to set this for all users
