Good Evening,

I'm having a few issues with confirming settings for the below criteria on a course we have setup,  We require our users to have only "1 attempt" at this course, I'll try to explain as much as possible but firstly from Scorm export I have Passed/Incomplete setup but also tried a few different options.

The passmark from scorm is 80% out of 40 questions. I have set the attempts in Totara LMS to "1 attempt" and to "lock after final attempt" but this is where the problem is for me I think...

If a user starts the attempt and answers a few questions, then runs out of time or the browser crashes, pc crashes or restarts etc. this attempt is classed as complete, meaning this is now locked, even though from what I read the attempt should only be marked as complete once the "results screen" passes this information to the Totara LMS.

This then rules out the option of having the "1 attempt" setup and would be unfair for the users if any of the issues such as browser crash etc. occurs.

Would it be possible for somebody to confirm the ideal/correct settings from both Scorm (currently using 1.2 from Storyline 360) and the settings what are required on Totara LMS to achieve this method for our users please.


I hope I've explained this correctly as I've tried many settings now in different combinations and coming to the same result, ideally if they "pass or fail" upon reaching the results screen, I'd like this to be marked as complete, then we can judge from the grading options on the reports.

Just a brief update to my further testing today.

With trialing different settings in all combinations I seem to of ended up with the same result, out of curiosity I just installed a fresh copy of the raw moodle source to see if this was maybe a conflict with our current lms and the base platform, it seems this issue is still apparent for me.

I'm convinced this must be a simple setting I am missing somewhere but the fact that on "1 attempt" set and "lock after final attempt" also enabled, this in my head should work? however indeed the user has 1 attempt but regardless of them getting to the end results screen of the scorm (where I thought the data then gets parsed to the lms), this ends the attempt. This then highlights the fact of any issues such as browser crash or a power cut for example mid course.

Hopefully somebody can shed some light on this for me and tell me I've clicked the wrong box :)

Hi Cecil

The settings for attempts look Ok - I think that the settings in the SCORM package may be interfering with the Totara settings. Another setting to check in Totara is under Compatibility setting - force completed is set to No

The SCORM would need to be opened with the authoring package to check any settings to do with attempts - I am not able to offer advice here.

For the attempt to be able to be accessed you can delete the SCORM attempt in the gradebook so they can access this again or maybe allow two attempts so this doesn't happen as frequently.

Thanks for your words, it certainly is a strange one as the completion status certainly seems to be passing across prior to the results screen. I'll check a few more scorm based settings, appreciate your reply here.
