Assignment activity in certifications

Hi community,

I would like to check the behaviour of the Assignment activity in the certification and recertification phases, whereby submissions are deleted and not archived. We are using Totara v12.

The initial certification contains a couple of courses with assignment activities and a separate course with multiple quizzes.

The recertification path contains a different course with assignment activities.

All assignment submissions in the certification and recertification courses requires the learner to upload documentation which is manually graded by a trainer upon submission.

During my testing I have found that when the window opens to recertify, the completed assignment uploaded and submitted aren't archived, they are deleted. This behaviour is unlike other activities such as Feedback and Certificates where the activity is archived for future reference and access. Is this correct and intended behaviour for Assignments and if so, is there a way for assignment submissions to be archived ..... aside from manually saving the documents submitted to a separate platform?

I've not been able to find any documentation that specifically mentions Assignments (such as this), but if there is some documentation available can someone please send me a link.

Regards, Michelle

Hi Michelle,

Previous assignment submissions are not stored and are deleted to enable the user to make a new submission. We are updating our documentation in order to clarify this behaviour. I'll drop a note to our Technical Writers & take it up with our Product team - probably there should be a warning in the UI so that users are clear on what they need to do - in some cases for example an appeal could be lodged on the grading and obviously it would be crucial to have a copy of the original assignment.

cheers,

George.
