eLearning Only Needed to be Completed Once in a Certification?
by Sonan Mushtaq - Tuesday, 25 May 2021, 7:46 AM

Hi,

We want to make a course that has an eLearning scorm and seminar sessions on one page. We would like the eLearning to be completed first which will unlock the seminar sessions. However, we dont want users to complete the eLearning again when it comes to recertifying, only to book onto the seminar sessions.

Is there a way to keep the eLearning "permanently unlocked" after the initial completion in a certification, so that the sessions are visible when it comes to recertifying?

Thank you.

Kind regards,

Sonan

Hi Sonan,

interesting challenge.

I suppose you've thought of this, but I would make 2 versions of the course -

1 with eLearning & seminar &

1 only with seminar and use the latter one for the recertification path.

I guess that users who fail to recertify would have to do the e-Learning again, but that might turn out to be an incentive to do the certification on time? Just thinking...  😁

Best,

Vlad

Hi Vlad,

Thank you for the reply, really appreciate it.

That is the way we currently have the course set up. One course with the eLearning and with the seminar sessions (new starters only) and the another course with the seminars only (this one is only to refresh).

The seminars are different (one is for new starters and the other one is for staff who need to refresh). However, the course in mind will now be using the same seminar training and that is why we want to change the current course layout.

I guess it would but people would start complaining.

Kind regards,

Sonan

Hi Sonan

Are you able to combine access restriction set conditions for the seminar activity

SCORM activity is marked completed

Or Date is after the date the recertification seminar session is available

So before the specified date the SCORM needs to be completed and after the date it doesn't need to be completed

Regards

Hi Craig,

Thank you for your reply. Really appreciate it.

I have tried your suggestion but I dont think I am able to do this on the version of Totara we have we use? (10):

I am not sure if I clicked on the right "Date" restriction that you were referring to?

Kind regards,

Sonan

Hi Sonan

The restriction by activity completion date was added in Totara 12 unfortunately

Hi Craig,

Thank you for getting back to me.

I guess we wont be able to use that feature as we have Totara 10 at the moment.

Would there be any other way of setting the eLearning so that it is only required to be completed once?

We might split the eLearning and seminar sessions into two seperate courses but wanted to explore the idea of having them under one course for simplicity.

Thank you.

Kind regards,

Sonan
