By default a user gets the three possibilities to get a confirmation after signing up for a seminar:
- Email with iCalendar appointment
- Email only
- Do not send confirmation

I can't see a setting that will only send an email with iCal appointment.
Please note there are some email clients that don't properly support this standard and multiple day events also have some issues with the ical attachment
There is an open feature request TL-8176 discussed here
