Notify students on creation of new assignment

I would like to notify learners when a new assignment is created in the course they are enrolled.

Is there any possibility to do that?

Hi Markus

There are event monitoring rules that you can subscribe to to notify you when the event is triggered.

Looking at the rule list there isn't a rule for the creation of an Assignment however there is a rule for creation of an activity. If you are only creating new assignment activities in the course then you could set a notification on the course to notify subscribed users that the assignment has been created.

An less complicated way to do this would be to create an announcement forum in the course and force subscription to it and post a forum message after a new assignment has been created.

Hi Craig, is it possible to include the learner's name in the notification message when using an Event Monitoring rule?

We are trying to use it as a trigger for a learner to request a practical training session but seems like the trainer then still has to visit the activity on the course page to find out who triggered the notification.

The only placeholders available are the following which doesn't include the users name unfortunately

Link to the location of the event {link}
Link to the area monitored {modulelink}
Rule name {rulename}
Description {description}
Event {eventname}
