Problem with program notifications

Hi,

We recently upgraded from Totara 12 to Totara 15 (through v13 and v14 first) and our program due date notifications stopped working. We receive notifications when a new user is assigned to a program, but we don't get any program due messages. We tried setting up global messages, and custom messages within a program, and we also tried forcing all delivery channels, and nothing.

Did anyone else have this issue?

Hello Martha

We appear to be experiencing a similar issue in our instance of Totara Learn..  Our vendor partner has directly engaged Totara to determine the issue.  We did notice following our upgrade, any old programs that were active prior to the upgrade are working correctly.  This issue seems to only be impacting our newly created/activated programs.

If you have not done so, engage with your partner.  Our team has been great about helping to resolve this for us.

Hi Elton,

We managed to figure out the issue for our client, I am including our solution below in case it helps you or anyone else:

  • Go to "Scheduled tasks" and make sure the task "Queue scheduled event task" runs frequently. Ours was running once a day only, so the notifications would arrive at the next day.
  • The legacy version of program assignments was enabled, and it seems to be problematic. Whenever we clicked the "Save" button, the rule for dynamic assignments (e.g. 1 month from program enrolment) disappeared. We ended up disabling the legacy mode and re-applying all dynamic program assignments for the problem to be resolved.
This is a major bug and I hope Totara resolves it soon.

Hi Martha

Adjusting the Queue scheduled event task to run more frequently than daily shouldn't be required.  If the timing of the scheduled notification is not right then you can adjust the timing of the notification to be one day sooner. Running the task more frequently than daily could slow the site performance down.

Can you confirm the ticket that was created to fix the program assignments - I had a quick look and couldn't find this and want to nake sure this has definitely been reported and a ticket created to fix this.
