Hi,

Just wondering what is best practice when changing the completion criteria on an active page but the change maybe doesn't warrant a new page?

E.g. we're removing the feedback activity as part of the criteria as the provider is going to collect it now but the course content itself is going to remain the same.

As the ref page points out

https://help.totaralearning.com/display/TL12/Course+Completions

"Modifying course completion criteria after some users have already completed the course is not recommended since it means different users will be marked as complete for different reasons."

Archiving the "old" page and starting up a new page seems excessive. There's no real difference between the pages.

We could accept that the page will have had 2 completion criteria, record that somewhere and change the criteria, but that goes against the advice.

So what do we do?

Thanks,

Larry

Hi Larry

The advice is for the option Unlock without deleting - if you chose the option Unlock criteria and delete existing completion data and are happy with what happens below then this is the recommended option to choose.

  • If the new completion option is manual, everyone is set to not completed regardless of any previous setting.

  • If the new completion option is automatic then, depending on the options chosen, the system may or may not be able to construct a correct current value for everyone.

  • The viewed requirement cannot generate a complete status on activities the learner has previously viewed, unless they view it again.

  • If you change completion options while a learner is logged in, they may not see the changes for some minutes.

  • Unlock completion options and delete user completion data will not remove RPL completion data.
Another thing that happens is the course completion date gets updated to when the completion conditions have been modified and the new completion calculated. It is possible to use the course completion editor to manually adjust the completion data.

thanks Craig.

Sounds like unlock and not delete is the way to go as the other way sounds like there is far too much manual updating required.

We'll record somewhere this course had another completion criteria.
