Hi

Just moving to v16 now, and looking at switching over to the centralised notification system for seminars. When doing some testing, it appears that the Event Custom Fields we use for storing webinar URLs, meeting IDs, etc. aren't available in the centralised notification templates for Seminars. Am I missing something, or was this an oversight when creating the notification system which will be resolved in an upcoming release? Would really like to get going with switching over, but not having those Custom Fields is a bit of a deal breaker for us.

Dan

Hi Dan, so good to hear that you're upgrading to v16. To answer your question, centralised notifications don't use custom field placeholders at the moment. We intend to add this enhancement in the future (see this ticket), and your feedback will help to prioritise it.

Have you considered the following workaround? Add the [Event Event (with link)] placeholder to seminar notifications. Use it to point the learners to the event page, where they can see custom fields such as webinar URLs.

Thanks, can't see the ticket (because I don't have access to the tracker), but glad my feedback here might be useful.

Hadn't considered that as a workaround, but it might do for now, thanks.

Adding this - custom fields for all centralised notifications where there are these options.

Course / Cert / Prog / Seminars would be great.

Problem description

The Centralised Notification feature is fantastic and we are looking at ways to leverage off this to improve Administrator workflows.

Currently the placeholders are great however there is no capability to add in the Prog/Cert/Course Custom Fields etc.

The reason why this would be valuable:
Companies have multiple business units that may have different messaging, support workflows etc. Instead of creating a separate notification for each business unit, they could leverage of the differences using the custom fields instead.

Product improvement description

Improvement:
Enable placeholders that include the 'Custom Fields' for Centralised Notifications

Thanks for posting this Renee.

I'm pleased to report that work is underway to add Centralised Notifications support for custom field placeholders.

We expect it to be in the upcoming Totara v18, due later this year.

Hi Ran,

Can i just ask will this work allow event custom fields to be placeholders within seminar notifications?

Thanks,

Hi Ran,

Thanks for getting back to me and look forward to seeing this in a later release. Is there any consideration for having seminar notifications that can be sent to the facilitator as a reminder that they are delivering the session and to be able to include the list of delegates as well as any custom fields for those delegates (thinking accessibility requirements).

Thanks,

Naif

This is amazing news!! This will bring so much flexibility and really let clients use the full functionality as it was intended (particularly when they have complexity in their business stuctures).

Is there any discussion around this being backported to versions with Certifications, Programs and Seminars?

Hi Ran,

I'm keen to know if the ability to add custom field placeholders was added to centralised notifications in Totara v18 released in November 2023, please?

Thanks

Hi Olivia

Event custom field placeholders were added to Totara 18 - these will show when you use the Weka editor and type [ to display available placeholder fields.

Hi,

Are you planning to add event custom field placeholders to centralised notifications in Totara 17 as well?

Hi Asa

As a general rule we don't backport new features TL-36848 but can backport on a case by case basis depending on demand, risks. complexity.

Are you able to add this as a Totara idea https://totara.community/course/view.php?id=208 and we will evaluate this.
