Hi! I have a course creator who was trying to add a PDF file into her description for a topic in a course. She was trying to use the file manager button. I advised her to add the PDF file via the "select files" field below the description instead (as I couldn't see a way to add a PDF to the description field). Can you please tell me what the purpose of the File Manager action button is in the description field?

The file manager button in the topic area of a course will add a link to the file in the topic. This allows you to upload a file or choose a file on server or external repository
This is used when embedding the file is not suitable as the file content would take up too much space on the screen. In the case of a pdf file this would probably be the case as they contain lots of words
