Restricted access course activities & course completion

Hi there, looking for advice on the following.

I have a course that includes 5 SCORM modules - I'll call them modules 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 for explanations sake. Most learners in the enrolled audience must complete modules 1-3. A sub-group of that audience must also complete modules 4-5, i.e. the sub-group completes all 5 modules.

When setting up the course completion, I'm unsure how (or if it's even possible) to set it up so that it shows up a max of 3 activities to complete for the main audience, and 5 activities to complete for the sub-group.

Currently the only solution I can see is to leave modules 4 & 5 'unticked' within the course activity completion. This is not ideal. If anyone is aware of a working solution, please share. Thanks!

I don't think it's possible to have course completion criteria be conditional based on audience. The only solution I can think of is to have two versions of the course - one with 3 activities, the other with 5 - and then enrol users into the applicable version.

Conditional completion criteria for different audiences would be a great feature though.

Yeah, different course completions by audience isn't doable - but would be awesome, its come up a few times for us.

Either having the two courses as recommended - or 1 course with 3 modules, and a second course (which that audience gets enrolled in) for the final 2 would be the way to go.

Good luck

Thanks Lloyd and Nevin for your suggestions, I think I'll be splitting them into courses of 3 & 2 modules each.

Conditional course completions would be great.

I do something 'creative' to achieve something like this in a course.

Using audiences or groups you could show/hide the activities, and then you have a final course completion activity (I use a label with them marking it as complete as a declaration).

The label uses a Restriction set to do some nested restrictions:

  • Is a member of audience/group A AND has completed Activity 1 + 2 + 3 (or just 3 if 1 & 2 are already part of Activity 3's restrictions,
    OR
  • Is a member of audience/group B AND has completed Activity 4 + 5 (or just 5, as above).

Then course completion is only set to show as completed once the label declaration is completed.
