Hi Nigel
The archiving deletes all activity grade records and adds the course completion record to the history.
It is possible to add the course completion records by uploading these in a file current course completion to add the record to the current course completion.
It is also possible to use the course completion editor to delete the course completion from history (use the history tab)
Unfortunately there isn't a setting that does this in one step or automated.
