Certificate of completion for classrrom event

Welcome to this forum!

Hi there,
has anyone of you set up certificates of completion for attending classroom events?
We would like to have an automatic notification go out to the participants once we change the status to "fully attended".
Currently we have it that way, that people go into the course and download the certificate and then an email notification can go out. But from a user experience point of view, it will be easier, if participants receive an email without having to go into the course again.

Hi Maren,

Good question - unfortunately the Certificate Activity doesn't offer this functionality.

Have you considered using Badges?

In most scenarios where the Certificate activity is used, badges may offer an improved user experience.

There's a range of different criteria including Activity Completion - see help docs on Course Badge Criteria here.

You can also send out a message via email to let the user know they've been awarded a badge.

Totara has a whole course on Badges in our Academy here.

Another possible way to get a notification when someone is marked as fully attended is to make the seminar Activity completion require a status of Fully attended

Then add a notification to the seminar activity on learner completed activity

Hi Craig, thank you.
We were playing around with that and we don't seem to get the right link to the certificate that we can use in the notification though.
Can you please advise which link we should use? We want to avoid having to copy an individual link per seminar into the notification.
I hope I am making sense with waht I wrote 😉

Hi Maren

When a user has their certificate issued they access this through the Certificate activity through the Get your certificate or view HTML version button which links to the unique id of the users certificate so wouldn't be suitable for including in a general notification.

You could include a general link to the certificate activity in the email which would look something like <sitename>/mod/certificate/view.php?id=99 and this will provide access to the certificate.
