Hi Jessica.
I've been working on a patch to make some changes to certifications. One of those changes should fix this problem. Once the patch is applied, the due date should be the same as the expiration date when a user is certified. The patch will hopefully be included in the next releases of Totara LMS versions 2.5, 2.6 and 2.7, due in a couple of weeks.

Hi Jessica.
Patch T-13550 fixes this problem, and it has already been released in Totara 2.5.26, 2.6.19 and 2.7.2. The patch also includes some other improvements and tests, so it's a really good idea to upgrade to at least this version.
