Hi Stephen,

The difference is, you create/edit/delete the positions via the position frameworks page, whereas on the user profile is used to assign a position to a user.

By default the frameworks page is only accessible to administrators, whereas all users can view their position, and permissions can be set up to allow users to set their own position if required.
