Domain Change

We have a need to change the domain of our Totara site, e.g. from OldDomain.davenport.edu  to  NewDomain.davenport.edu

Can anyone kindly provide guidance or point me to documentation to ensure that we make this change in all the appropriate places (config files, databases, etc.)?

Are there any other risks we should be aware of which may affect content or operability?

Many thanks!
John

Hi John

There is also some discussion on this at http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=128863 which covers finding and replacing existing content that uses absolute links and also clearing the course cache so the new domain is used.

Fyi - Totara has an inbuilt script that can be used to search and replace strings throughout the whole database. Grab a backup of your database first. It's located at yourdomain.com/admin/replace.php.

Search whole database for: OldDomain.davenport.edu

Replace with this string: NewDomain.davenport.edu

Just a quick update. Since Totara 2.x, the replace script is now located @ yourdomain.com/admin/tool/replace/index.php.

On a related note, the current script only supports MySQL and PostgreSQL databases. Does anyone have a comparable script for MSSQL? Moodle tracker tells me this is on the radar for Moodle 2.3.x, so Totara may not inherit that enhancement until Easter 2013.

Cheers, Chad.
