Hello,
Can someone has implemented Totara in an organization that has multiple sector industries?, who can I have a Totara site that divides each sector
Example:
- I want to have an admin for each sector,
- I dont want the users to see the courses of different sector
- I want the admin of each sector just to be able to see the participants of its sector when he enroll the students to a course
- The site doesnt have to have multiple theme for each sector

Hi Giovanni,

It could be possible to arrange this by using an Organisation Hierarchy, the structure can be flat for different sectors. It should be possible to arrange the permissions you require by defining the appropriate User/System roles.

regards,

George.

Thanks for that input Niek.

Giovanni, what you are talking about, multi-tenancy, is not there in Totara yet. It is something we are aware of the demand for and are looking at possible solutions and how we might be able to integrate/offer it.

There have been various long discussions around this on the forums  - see:

https://totara.community/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=748 and

Some partners have developed their own approaches to this - any creative suggestions for Giovanni welcome.

Hi all,

here's one idea that might be useful:

  • Hide course/category/combo list on frontpage settings
  • Use program management feature -> creating programs for each division
  • Compose program welcoming messages for each program, with direct link(s) to course(s)
Well of course users can still see all courses via "Find courses".

Hi Giovanni

As Andy flags, we (Totara partner Androgogic) have developed a multi-tenant capability that you might be interested in seeing? It uses category permissions and a custom catalogue that is sensitive to Organisation. Happy to show you if you are interested :)
