Display Package "New Window" Not Working
par Mike Martin, Friday 11 January 2013, 13:18

Hello Totara community, and thanks in advnace to anyone who may help. It seems that recently all of our SCORM training packages (built in Articulate Storyline) aren't and won't open in a new window, although the "display package" function is indeed set to do so. Is anyone else having any similar issues? It's incredibly important, since our training packages need to be full screen for our participants. Now that it won't open this way, they are constrained to a small area in the middle of the screen. hardly big enough to see. Any help or suggestions would be absolutely appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Mike,

Couple of questions - are you using a custom theme & have you tried it with a standard totara theme to rule out a theme issue? If not could you sent a screenshot of the settings page and a copy of the SCORM. Also - what browser & version of Totara are you using?

regards,

George.

Darren, many thanks! I was able to reproduce exactly what you presented. From the course structure, the pop-up works like a charm, but opens in the same window from the "enter" button. That's incredibly strange. If you hear anything back from your support ticket, I would greatly appreicate hearing as well. Thanks again!

Hi Darren

I uploaded a SCORM to a vanilla Totara and the new window opens OK.

Looking at the discussion on Moodle https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=213898 there are some issues with content structure , IE8 compatibility etc and some fixes that have been applied.

In my case  these issues didn't apply  - the problem with the new window occured when I selected the courses format as SCORM.  When I set the course format to the weekly or topic format the new window appeared as expected. Hopefully this is what is causing your problem.

Thanks Craig!

The missing piece of the puzzle was that it only happens if the course is using the SCORM course format. Once I changed my course format I was able to reproduce it.

The bug mentioned in the thread linked by Craig points to this bug:

https://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-36421

which seems to be the cause, and the suggested fix provided works for me.

I'll include the patch in our next 2.2 release (out this week).

Can everyone who was experiencing this issue confirm that they were using the SCORM course format (just in case this is not the problem)?

Simon

Hi Darren,

I'm sorry if you are not getting the support you needed on this issue. I will look into this case and see what went wrong but I can't seem to track down your original support request. Could you send me a link?

We'll investigate this issue but first we need to be able to reproduce it, which is why we need a bit more information. Could you let me know what browser you are using when you saw the problem.

Mike, if you are able to share the SCORM package and a screenshot of your scorm settings page that would really help. If you'd rather not share the package in these forums (or it's too big) my email is simon.coggins@totaralms.com.

Sorry Darren, there seems to be some confusion here - I don't know what you're referring to when you say LOG-2 or LOG-9. Is that some sort of web-based ticket system? If so could you send me a url to the ticket?

I can't seem to find any reference to you or logica in support.totaralms.com which is where our support tickets come in.

Ah I think I might know what's going on. Did Logica get their subscription via Kineo? If so I guess they may have a support system between you and them that we don't have access to.

Normally Kineo would pass the query back to us if it was a core Totara problem which means we probably have the same request but with a different reference number.

Who is your contact at Kineo? I'll ask them which support request your question refers to in our system and find out what's going on with it.

Hey Everyone,

A patch fixing this issue was included in todays (18th Jan 2013) release of Totara 2.2.13. A quick upgrade to the latest Totara and your scorm popups should be working as expected again.

Cheers
David
